What makes hydrogen so intriguing? It’s the magic ingredient in our universe. Chasing hydrogen clouds that flow between galaxies and developing more advanced telescopes to observe them can better reveal how the universe works.
2019 TED Fellow Erika Hamden, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Astronomy at the University of Arizona. As an astrophysicist she’s developing telescopes and new ultraviolet detection technologies to improve our ability to observe distant galaxies. She held a NASA Earth and Space Science fellowship from 2011 to 2014, and was a National Science Foundation (NSF) Astronomy and Astrophysics postdoctoral Fellow, and Robert Andrews Millikan Fellow in Experimental Physics. In 2019 she was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) and became an AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador.
