Man had known the importance of group functioning, coexistence, and sociality since antiquity. However, it appears that contemporary man is occasionally unable to embrace his entire culture. In his lecture, Alexiadis makes an effort to present his personal viewpoint on the pendulum by putting himself in the positions of each individual person in contemporary society. He discovers the solutions to the concerns that have troubled him and countless others ever since by thinking back to his early years. Who is regarded as unique? What must one do in order to blend in? Should we eventually build a society made of exclusively of people with similar personalities? With regard to these inquiries, he had a clock on his side, whose pendulum essentially served as a guide. The author attempts to differentiate between empathy and compassion throughout the speech, and at the conclusion, stresses the need of acceptance in fostering a harmonious society.
