In the talk titled ‘Connected by Consumption, Consumed by Connectivity’, Shalin draws a parallel between his 20s and 40s and uses this platform to put forth the laments of a middle-aged man. While he talks about the classic contradictions of this crazy world, the concepts of political correctness being converted to fine art, and the existence of a superficial universe, he also manages to crack up the audience with his consistent satirical comments. Not to forget the subtle remarks on hypocrisy, mainstream voyeurism, the lost feeling of connectivity, reductionism of dialogue, and the super-highway of information among others. His honest confessions struck a chord with the audience and every member most certainly walked out with a sense of self-awareness and realization.
