The inspiration behind Trinity is twofold. Each movement features a dancer who represents a characteristic historically viewed as unfeminine and undesirable in women. The dancers onstage are, in turn, ambitious, passionate, and independent in their actions. These qualities should be seen as positive attributes that build strong and successful women. The dancers are taking these traditionally unfavorable traits and redefining them as beneficial and empowering. The masks worn in the piece are inspired by the historic Venetian masks of Carnevale which were worn to conceal the identity and emotions of festival-goers, creating equality of rank. The masks also represent the societal trend of women being frowned upon and devalued when emotions are expressed in public.
