My full name is Mohamad Hasan Al-Akraa, but people call me Hasan. I’m 18 years old and I am originally from Syria, but I have been living in Malaysia for almost 7 years as a refugee with my family due to the war situation there.
I graduated from Cranbridge Edu Group this year, and currently I am waiting for a university application. At the same time I am volunteering as an English and kindergarten teacher at 2 refugee schools, also i am conducting few project for the underprivileged people in Malaysia such as English and Malay Classes, skills courses, children out day and wall painting.
Since I came to Malaysia, I washed dishes in a local restaurant located in IIUM in 2012. Then I worked as a chef assistant in 2013, then I worked as a chef and finally I worked as a cashier in 2014. I went through so many challenges and hardships but I overcome it and just kept fighting for my dream and to have a better life.
In 2014 I was arrested by the immigration because refugees aren’t allowed to work in Malaysia, so I spent 9 horrible days in the prison. I did overcome this too.
After 9 days, the UNHCR released me and I stopped working in a restaurant, so I started doing volunteering work to help the community to live a better life.
I was featured in many newspapers, websites and TV. I also started doing motivational talks and public speaking.
I also won as The Best non-academic achievement in August 2017 from Albukhary International University.
