On May 14, 2016, at 9 pm, I stood at the start line of the 3 Days at the Fair 12-hour ultramarathon. I started running 1-mile loops around the Sussex County Fairgrounds. I did that all night. Around 7:30am the following morning, a guy named Josh said to me, "Mike, I think you're in first place." Sure enough, after I finished the next lap, I checked the leaderboard and there was a little #1 next to my name. I ran for another two hours. After I had run 63 laps, I thought I would quit, but the race director said to me, "You have 12 minutes left. Go! Get as much as you can out of this course!" So I ran one more lap. I got a pretty cool glass sculpture as the award for winning the men's division, which I broke soon afterwards (glass is pretty fragile.) I'm really not a great athlete or anything. I want to convince you that I am nothing special and that you could do this too if you really wanted.
