Eugene Griffin is an "original" Irishman, born and raised in Limerick. His career in Irish local government spanned over forty years culminating in his final position as Council Secretary. Upon retirement in 2015, he decided not put put his feet up, but instead to set out on a 13 week overland adventure along the Silk Road from Bangkok to Istanbul. Since that memorable trip, he has continued to travel the world, visiting 25 countries in the past three years, including trekking to Everest Base Camp and now resides in Kinshasa. Eugene Griffin will be speaking about his experiences growing up in the socially controlled Ireland of the 1960s and the influence of negative social controls.
