Humans discard billions of dollars’ worth of usable building materials every year. We can easily understand how to correct the dysfunctions of our own making, by identifying mindsets and bias embedded in our symbol systems.

Dan Phillips’ background ranges from military intelligence and teaching philosophy of art for dancers, to restoring art and antiques, and now, building houses from recycled materials. A corollary focus has been to understand why there is such colossal waste in the building industry and how best to utilize it employing the principles of art and design and where they originate. He and his wife, Marsha, started The Phoenix Commotion with the mission of building recycled houses and targeting underserved populations, using unskilled workers.
