In this energetic talk, recorded at TEDxEustis 2020, the students and mentors of 12 Volt Bolt, a robotics team based in Lake County, Florida, share their experiences building robots and competing with other students in STEM competitions.
FIRST® Robotics Team 1557 – 12 Volt Bolt is a robotics program that provides STEM education to students in the Lake County area. We boast team number 1557 under an organization called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) which has approximately 3600 active high school teams from 27 countries. These teams participate in regional, district and world robotics competitions each year. 12 Volt Bolt is a community-based team which allows us the freedom to meet year-round and to welcome public, private and home-schooled students from all over Lake County. As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on the kindness of others and the generous support of local businesses, private donors and education-related grants. Team 1557 – 12 Volt Bolt has been able to make an impact on the Lake County community since 2004.
